What’s New In The Pokemon Galar Region

Some of you reading this are probably seasoned Pokémon veterans. You already know what to expect, catching Pokémon, training them, battling them, all the basics. But the Galar region is a new region to explore, and there will be things you've never seen before! Here is just a preview of what you can expect in the new Galar region.

The Gym Challenge

The Gym Challenge is an annual event in the Galar region, where endorsed trainers can try to defeat eight gym leaders, make their way through the semi-finals and finals tournaments, and ultimately defeat the champion!

Poke Jobs

Pokémon have a very active role in Galarian society. You can experience this yourself with Poke Jobs, job postings from companies across Galar that you can send your Pokémon to help out on. Have Pokémon in your boxes go lend a hand, or tail, or tentacle, or claw, and they will earn rewards ranging from cash and items to experience points and base points.

Y-Comm

Y-Comm is the easy communication hub where you can find other players to trade Pokémon or League Cards with, have Linked Battles against, or join for Max Raid Battles. Connect to the Internet or play with others nearby, and you will see stamps pop up on your screen whenever other trainers looking for someone to connect with so they can play together.

The Wild Area

Another defining feature of Galar is the massive uninhabited wilderness known as the Wild Area. You will visit this wide, open expanse often on your adventure. It is a great place to explore, catch Pokémon, camp, and take part in Max Raid Battles against Dynamax Pokémon with up to three other players!

Camping

You saw we mentioned camping up there? That is right, in the Galar region, camping is pretty common! Pitch a tent in the Wild Area or on routes, and you might just run into other trainers who have decided to set up camp, too!

The Dynamax Phenomenon

If there is one thing that makes the Pokémon of the Galar region unique, it is that they can Dynamax. Once Dynamaxed, Pokémon become massive, get a huge boost to their HP, and gain access to new Max moves. If that sounds a little intimidating, don't worry, you will be able to Dynamax your own Pokémon in time but so will some opponents you face.

This certainly isn't all that is new! There are marks and special titles your Pokémon can get in battle, your nifty knew Rotom bike, how weather plays a role in catching Pokémon in the Galar region, and more. There are plenty of new functions for expert players, too, like Nature mints to change your Pokémon’s stats, new ways to get Egg Moves and evolve certain Pokémon, new online battle systems, and so much more!
